  9. Frank Kelly Freas is universally recognized as one of the most prolific and popular science fiction and 
  10. fantasy artists in the world.  His distinguished career spans more than forty years, from painting covers for 
  11. ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION and PLANET STORIES in the 1950s to visualizing the most 
  12. current concepts in science fiction, gaming, and motion picture concepts.  This is evidenced by his 
  13. winning the readers' poll award from ANALOG MAGAZINE for Best Cover of the Year for 1991.

  15. Over the years, Freas' art has graced the covers of hundreds of science fiction books and magazines.  His 
  16. art has illustrated works by such writers as famous and diverse as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert 
  17. A. Heinlein, Poul Anderson, Dean R. Koontz, Ursula K. LeGuin, Frederik Pohl, and A.E. Van Vogt.  He 
  18. also contributed covers to MAD MAGAZINE from 1955 to 1962, as well as numerous other commercial 
  19. illustrations, such as the record jacket for Queen's best-selling album, NEWS OF THE WORLD, and the 
  20. cover of the 1992 STAR TREK ANNUAL.  An official NASA artist, Freas' space posters hang in the 
  21. Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.  He was also commissioned by the Skylab 1 astronauts to 
  22. design their crew patch.

  24. Dubbed the "most popular sf artist in the history of the field" by the highly respected ENCYCLOPEDIA 
  25. OF SCIENCE FICTION, Frank Kelly Freas was the first artist to have won ten Hugo Awards.  These 
  26. awards are given at the annual World Science Fiction Convention and are the highest recognition granted 
  27. to a science fiction artist.  He has been nominated for that award an all-time record of twenty times.  He 
  28. has also won numerous other genre awards, including the NATTS's Hall of Fame in 1991.  In 1994, 
  29. STARLOG magazine included him in their prestigious list of The 200 Most Important People in Science 
  30. Fiction and Fantasy.

  33. subject of three best-selling collections:  THE ASTOUNDING FIFTIES, FRANK KELLY FREAS:  THE 
  34. ART OF SCIENCE FICTION, and A SEPARATE STAR.  No other artist in science fiction has 
  35. consistently matched his astounding record.  His smooth and luminous images, amiable aliens, and sexy 
  36. women have become part of today's science fiction landscape.
